New Article about Seattle Free School

It's not a big surprise that as more people get to know us we're getting less press. We're not the new thing out there and that's just fine with us. That said, we always love it when folks decide we're worth sharing, either to their friends or in the news. With that in mind, check out this great article from Hello Seattle!

Just a reminder to all of our friends and fans out there that we LOVE it when you share what we do with your friends!

Why be a facilitator?

There are a lot of reasons to become a facilitator at Seattle Free School. Many people just want to share their passion. Others know that it will help them with their presentation skills which can apply to anything from giving a speech to acing a job interview. Others want to inspire people to create art. This is Dorothy's reason. What's yours?

CHICKENS!

Have you wanted to keep chickens but don't know where to start? Sharon, a recent "Keeping Chickens in the City" student had this to say about the class and her future plans:

"Thanks so much for the informative chicken class. You provided lots of useful information and answered so many of my questions. Next step for me is building the coop and picking up chicks -- hopefully ones that will turn out to be hens."

We have more classes posted and will keep having chickens classes all summer. Can't make it? You can learn a lot by vising BackYardChickens.com They even have a forum for chicken emergencies! Great resource!

Inchies!

Our great instructor Dorothy is back at it with a new class on a very tiny form of art, Inchies! What are Inchies? Well here's Dorothy's description and some fantastic pictures. This will be a very fun class!

Incredible Inchies

Sunday, April 17, 2011
Time: 1:00 pm to 5:00 pm
Location: Crown Hill United Methodist Church
8500 – 14th Avenue NW

Bus Routes #48 or #15
(Enter through the north parking lot door or the east handicap door and follow the signs to the Fellowship Hall.)

March’s workshop was Artist Trading Cards; April’s is Inchies--“very” miniature works of art that are 1 inch square to be traded or used to create a mosaic art piece. This workshop will provide all the paper materials and tools to make as many Inchies as you want. All crafters and artists, regardless of skill level, will enjoy creating and sharing their “masterpieces.” Come learn more about Inchies (and Twinchies, Rinchies, Rolos, and Moos). All ages are welcome--entire families are encouraged.

Facilitator
Dorothy Skans is a Seattle native and a life-long crafter. She joined Seattle Free School in order to pass along her love of paper art as well as to pass along her over abundance of paper.

Craigslist Foundation Boot Camp

Did you know that Seattle Free School was at Craigslist Foundation Boot Camp last year talking about how to run a nonprofit without money? We were! And now there's lots of links for you to look at and listen to if you weren't able to make it.

Here's the link to the podcast.

Here's the link to our slides.

Here's a link to the brief interview we did after our talk.

And perhaps most importantly, here's a link to how Seattle Free School has helped bring grass roots activism to China!

Beacon Hill!

Lots of folks are talking about our upcoming facilitator's class on Beacon Hill. Fortunately the Beacon Hill library has lots of great time availability so we're able to have a class there in the evening and hopefully bring Seattle Free School to the neighborhood.

Check out this great blog post about the upcoming class and thanks to both for helping us spread the word to the neighborhood.
